Book Review Policy

For those authors/publishers that would like to have a book review on Thaibirding.com as part of their publicity campaign I will be happy to receive hard copies of publications that are related to the content of this website; reviews of content-related books are beneficial to the readers of this website and to the authors/publishers with books to promote.

I am open to receiving books from both publishing companies and self-published authors, so long as the content is relevant to the subject matter of Thaibirding.com, be that an ornithological publication related to the birds of Thailand, a field guide relating to Thailand or nearby countries or travel guides relating to the region.

As a book-lover I enjoy holding a book in the hand and seeing it on the shelf and as such I am only prepared to review books that I am sent a hard copy of. I spend a lot of time working on a digital screen and have no interest in reading digital versions of books no matter how convenient that medium may be to birders in the field. I know that is old-fashioned, but that is the way I prefer to deal with reviews.

Send me your book for reviewing and I will:

  • Create a promotional blog post Dartfordwaffler.co.uk upon receiving your book.

  • Create a full review of your book linked from the Book Reviews section of Thaibirding.com.

After I have read your book I will write an honest review of it. I will not be rude about any book I receive this way but equally I will not create a good review just because I have received a courtesy copy of a book. I will always try to focus upon any positive aspects I see in any book I receive, but I will also politely talk about anything I don't like about it. In short I will create an honest review but be neither rude nor scathing.

An example of a balanced review can be seen here - The Birds of the Bangkok Area by Philip D. Round

Contact me if you would like your book to be reviewed on Thaibirding.com

Please contact me, via email, with the details of any book that you would like reviewing. Please let me know the title, subject matter and anything else I need to know about the book then if I think it is suitable for the contant of this website I will provide an address to which to send it - nickupton@thaibirding.com

Thank you

Nick
