On the 12th May a Hooded Pitta was seen well on the trail between Pha GLuai Mai campsite and Haew Suwat, Khao Yai.

The above observations from Krabi and Khao Yai were submitted by Mike Greenfelder

29/05/07 : A Common Buzzard was seen flying over the Chao Fha City development site on Phuket on the 29th May. A pair of Barn Owls were seen hunting at Sapan Hin, also on Phuket, in the evening.

The above sightings were taken from Ike Suriwong's Phuket Birder's Blog with his kind permission.

28/05/07 : Up to five Grass Owls were present at the site near Chiang Saen on the 27th May and the River Tern was seen again on the 25th. It is also reported that a flock of about 40 Plain Martins was present in the region for about 2 weeks in mid May.

The above sightings from Chiang Saen were made by Mick Davies & Dowroong Danlamajak.

25/05/07 : At least 3 fledged Grass Owls have been regularly seen close to Chiang Saen and on the 24th May a further 2 or possibly 3 pairs were located. On the same day a sub adult River Tern was photographed on wetlands near Chiang Saen. Additionally, an Oriental Pratincole and 10 Whiskered Terns were seen.

The above sightings from Chiang Saen were made by Mick Davies & Dowroong Danlamajak.

10/05/07 : Newly published Recent Reports from January 2007 to April 2007 (BCST Bull. Vol 24, no. 2) are now online on the Bird Conservation Society of Thailand's website. Several seabirds were amongst the highlights with a Lesser Frigatebird at Bang Poo, Samut Prakarn, on the 19th February and a cruise off the coast of Trang produced a Brown Booby, 2 Lesser Frigatebirds and 2 Long-tailed Jaegers (Skuas) on the 28th March. Other scarce birds were a Great Bittern near Petchaburi on the 20th April, juvenile Steppe and Imperial Eagles along with a Western Marsh Harrier at Ban Thung Sawang, Nakhon Sawan, on 4th March.

A Japanese Paradise-flycatcher was seen and photographed in mangroves at Tambon Samet, Chonburi on 22nd April but this was surpassed by a Spotted Wren Babbler which was both seen and heard singing at 1800 m on Doi Lang on 21st March; another addition to the growing Thailand List. - See BCST website for full report.

A couple of interesting species have been found nesting around Chiang Saen: Besra and Savanna Nightjar. Two immature Painted Storks were seen near Mae Sai on the 23rd April and it is interesting to note that virtually all buntings had departed by the 12th April.
