Bird List for Maritime Park & Spa Resort, Krabi

The grounds of the Maritime Park & Spa Resort are often visited by birders staying in Krabi. The hotel itself is a large and luxurious place with over 200 rooms which range from just over 2000 baht per night in the low season to suites costing 7000 baht per night in the high season. This is not a place for budget travellers to stay, but for a bit of fairly affordable luxury it would be a great place to stay.

However, visitors are allowed to walk around the grounds in order to view the birds that occur around the lagoon, ornamental gardens and thea walkway into the mangroves as well as some other scrubby vegetation. It is worth informing the staff of what you are doing before birding in order that security does not throw you out; they are quite used to birders and are happy to allow you to look around.

Maritime Park and Spa Resort

Quite a large number of species have been recorded in the hotel grounds over the years with Brown-winged Kingfisher, Oriental Hobby, Ruddy Kingfisher and Mangrove Pitta among the highlights. From the jetty, a number of people have also spotted otters.

Thomas Evans returned from a birdwatching tour of Thailand in early 2007 and very kindly sent me an extensive list of sightings. On 3rd January he visited the Maritime Park and Spa Resort grounds and here is a list of his sightings.
