Bird List from Thale Noi, Phattalung

Although plenty of birdwatchers have visited Thale Noi Non-hunting Area over the years, it seems to have become neglected by visiting birders even though it has been designated as a Ramsar site..

Thale Noi is a large area of fresh water (although it becomes slightly saline for part of the year) to the north of Lake Songkhla in Phattalung province. There are reedbeds, lotus swamps, sedge and grass beds and an area of Melaleuca woodland. There are facilities for birdwatchers and boat trips for those that wish to find a large number of species.

A recent list of species seen on a tour of the country sent to me by Thomas Evans, included a number of sightings for Thale Noi, and I have reproduced them here. Maybe it will encourage more birdwatchers to visit.

More information on Thale Noi.
