Sri
Nakorn Kuen Khan, Suan Luang, Suan Lumphini and Suan Luang
are all parks that within striking distance of Bangkok's city
centre. Any of these five parks can be visited as an introduction
to the birds of Thailand by a taxi ride from any of the main
hotels zones in the city. At any time of the year these parks
will provide birds with a good selection of the commoner birds
in the country and each has a few surprising species to find.
During migratory times these parks are magnets for passage migrants
and a wide variety of species can be found including some real
rarities.

All
of these parks are great for a morning's birding when most species
will be seen and then recovering from the heat and humidity in your
air-conditioned room will be nice after lunch. Any of these parks
would also make a decent late afternoon birding session too but remember
that you are likely to run into some of Bangkok's notorious traffic
after leaving any of these locations in the late afternoon/early evening. |
